John Steger

The emphasis of my work has stayed constant over the past 24 years. I am primarily a functional potter. I try to use simple forms that relate to their function but I also use techniques of additive and subtractive methods in my pieces to alter their look of utilitarian ware without compromising their functionality. The majority of my pieces are defined by their form and their only decoration is the glaze. I am using mid-range, cone 6 stoneware clay and glazes, in an oxidation firing environment.
